Accelerated Reader Program

                  Welcome to Renaissance Place
Welcome, parents and students, to Renaissance Place!  You should have recieved a letter home explaining the AR program describing the "Home Connect" feature of this program.  If you have not yet tried to log in to this site, we would encourage you to try.   Within the "Home Connect" feature, you can see your child's progress and results from tests on books.  There is also a place to create a list of books that they would like to read next and a place to check and see if the book they want to read has a test.  This feature is located in the bottom right corner of the site and it is called "AR Book Finder."  For those of you who lost the letter that was sent home, the link is below, but you will also need your student's user name & password that is used at school to take tests.

             FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I find out if my book has an AR test?
You can check if your book has a test within the Home Connect link above.  Just click on the AR Bookfinder box within that site and/or   check for AR tests within a Renaissance site called "AR Bookfind."  That link is below.
http://www.arbookfind.com/

Does the SGS Library have books for all the tests that are available?
No it does not!  We are mightly, but we are not huge like a public library.  We now have access to 120,000 tests and our library has about 10,000 books.  You will have to use the public library to find some of the books that you would enjoy reading!

Can I take AR tests at home?
No!  The home connect feature only allows you to see your test results, search for new books to read, and watch the progress you are making. The AR test feature would be compromised if testing was allowed at home.

How do we use our Renaissance Learning
                 Components at SGS?

Testing

Students in grades 2-8 are assessed using the Star Reading Test at the beginning of each new school year.  This test assigns a reading-level range specific to each student's reading ability.  The range is broad enough that each child is sure to find a large number of books that he/she will enjoy reading, and for which there are AR tests.  Parents will receive a Parent Letter after the testing is complete to let them know their child's level.

* First grade students will be tested using the Star Reading Test in October.

Beginning AR:

Once a reading range is determined, students will be asked to select a book within their assigned level.  They can read independently, be read to, or a combination of both.  The books can be part of class work or for their own enjoyment.  There is no limit to the number of tests a child can take within his or her range.   All books in the library are identified as AR books on the spine of the book and on the inside cover.  Renaissance Place has over 120,000 tests for a variety of books at all reading levels.

The AR Process:
When a student finishes reading a book,  a computerized test may be taken here at school. AR is available on all computers throughout SGS, but students are encouraged to take their test in either the library or their classroom as a first priority, and the K-5 computer lab as a second priority. Test printouts are signed by both the teacher overseeing the test (the monitor,) and the student's individual teacher.  Points are earned based on the number of questions answered correctly and the difficulty of the book.  Top point earners for each quarter will be listed in the monthly newsletter and posted outside the library.

AR Rewards:
Each trimester, the "top readers" are honored from each classroom with a certificate and placement of their names in the "Book of Fame" outside the front office and the library.

At the end of the year, there is an Accelerated Reading Prize Store where students can spend the points they have earned during the year.
