FAQ’s WHAT CANDIDATES WANT TO KNOW

What is the St. Gilbert School Advisory Board?

The School Advisory Board’s role in an Archdiocesan school is different from that of a public school. The Board is a leadership group within the ministry of Catholic schooling and is advisory to the Pastor and Principal. The Pastor and Principal participate in all meetings of the Board and participate in all deliberations of the Board. Decisions regarding curriculum are the responsibility of the Principal. The Pastor has final approval of all Board decisions.

Specifics regarding the role of the Advisory Board at St. Gilbert School are found in the Constitution and Bylaws.

Does the Advisory Board set school curriculum?

No. Although the Board Members are in a position to provide a sounding board to the Principal, decisions regarding curriculum are not the purview of the Board.

What are the primary responsibilities of the Advisory Board?

The Board helps advise the Principal and Pastor and coordinate volunteer efforts to enhance the educational experience of the students of St. Gilbert Catholic School. Examples of ways the Board helps:

The Board assists in the research and preparation of the annual budget for approval by the Principal, Pastor and Parish Council.

The Board is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with alumni and local businesses. A major rationale for these relationships is to provide external funding for the school.

The Board coordinates volunteer efforts to market the School to existing and potential families.

The Board coordinates volunteer efforts to assist with specific areas of expertise. As an example, the Board coordinates the efforts of a team of technology profession.

Please join us on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the multi-purpose room for our school board meetings.  We generally do not meet in June, July or December.
